There is something rather steadfast about Charlotte.

Made in the 19th century, she belongs to an age when furniture was expected not merely to furnish a room, but to remain there—through winters and weddings, quiet suppers and noisy family gatherings, bearing witness to the small histories of a home.

Her dark, timeworn finish gives her a wonderfully brooding character, while the carved detailing has an almost Gothic beauty. There are knocks, marks and gentle imperfections to be found, but we would not wish them away. They are the traces of a life already lived, and Charlotte wears them rather well.

We named her Charlotte, inspired by our visit to the Bronte Parsonage at Howarth and by those wonderfully atmospheric Yorkshire interiors, practical, beautiful and just a little austere. She is a piece that seems made for old books, gathered branches, candlelight and all the curious treasures accumulated along the way.

Solid, useful and quietly imposing, Charlotte asks for no particular kind of home— only one that will allow her next chapter to begin.

Travel Note

Inspired by Haworth, West Yorkshire—by stone houses on the edge of the moors, dark timber, well used rooms and the feeling that every old piece of furniture might have a story tucked away inside it.
